More than 500 runners take part in North East's biggest relay event

Runners from across Darlington, County Durham descended on Stewart Park in Middlesbrough to take part in the popular NYMAC Relays.
The event attracts clubs from all over the region for an evening of competitive mile-long legs in teams of four.
More than 500 runners and athletics supporters from across the North East took part in the relays last Thursday (May 29).
Runners from the Darlington Harriers, Quakers running club, and teams from across County Durham such as Sedgefield and Crook also took part.
Middlesbrough AC Mandale dominated the male open category, with their A team of Jacob Brown, Max Creasey, George Craggs and Zander Gribbon taking victory in 18 minutes and 42 seconds.

Darlington Harriers came in second place.
In the men’s opening leg, Middlesbrough & Cleveland’s Greg Jayasuriya clocked 2:11 for the half-mile before being overtaken by Richmond & Zetland’s Rob Scott, who ran the fastest mile of the evening in a blistering 4 minutes and 33 seconds.
Winning female open team from Stockton Striders being presented with their prize from host club North York Moors AC chairman Tom Nye (Image: NYMAC) Stockton Striders claimed a comfortable win in the female open category with Emily Palmer, Abby Barker, Emma Fleming and Lilly Wilkinson finishing in 23:26.
Darlington Harriers came second and Richmond & Zetland Harriers came third.
North York Moors AC will host the next relay event at Stewart Park on August 28, 2025.
