TALLAGHT Athletic Club’s Men’s 4X100m relay team, having previously topped the podium in 2018, 2019 and 2022, secured their fourth National relay title on Day One of the National Track and Field Championships in Morton Stadium, Santry on Saturday.

The squad consisted of Joseph Finnegan Murphy, David Aigboboh, Sean Aigboboh, Kieran Elliott and Simon Essuman with the latter four combining to set a new club record of 41.83, with Simon Essuman who featured on all four winning teams running a fantastic final leg to fend off the challenges of Clonliffe Harriers and Tullamore Harriers.

Earlier on the day Margaret Hayden delivered a series of great throws in the women’s hammer throw with her best throw of 61.3 metres good enough to secure the silver medal.

Also on Day 1, Robert Irvine Byrne, Godwin Mathias and Jack Kelly recorded times of 48.79, 51.08 and 51.42 respectively in the heats of the 400m.

The following day, Joseph Ojewumi, Simon Essuman, Kieran Elliott, and David Aigboboh contested the heats of the 100m where they recorded respective times of 11.15, 11,.18, 11.52 and 11.54 seconds, with both Joseph Ojewumi and Simon Essuman making it through to the semi-finals where they recorded times of 10.73 and 11.13 respectively.

Joseph Ojewuni’s 2nd place finish secured his place in the final where he finished just shy of the podium in 4th (10.73), behind Israel Olatunde who won the title for UCD A.C., with a time of 10.43.

Tallaght Athletic Club’s Men’s 4X100m went top of the podium

The next few weeks will be exciting times for the club when Rhasidat Adeleke steps onto the track at the World Championships in Budapest and Sean Aigboboh enters the arena with the Irish 4X100m relay team at the European U20 Championships in Israel.

Adding to the excitement is the news that the National 100m Champion Israel Olatunde who is representing Ireland in Budapest in the 100m, is soon to join Tallaght A.C.
